#20 “Double Eagle“ by Kelby Singhaus

Photo presumably taken by author Charles McCarry.

Here's the story of this photo, as it was told in Equator Journal: "Double Eagle is the riveting, true account of the first flight across the Atlantic Ocean by men in a balloon, by all reckonings one of the most extraordinary human adventures of all time. The 1978 voyage by Ben Abruzzo, Maxie Anderson, and Larry Newman, from Albuquerque, New Mexico, is a tale of supreme courage, endurance, ingenuity, and the all-powerful drive for glory." This sequence of songs is meant to prompt an exploration of both emotional precipices and ponderous plateaus. These songs have accompanied me through moments of loss, longing and rediscovery. Each track represents a moment for me; they fit like a hand in between each finger and guided me to a new place. This month has been hard, but that’s life. The mountaintop is next.
