#1 “Vacation Scenes” by Cole Borgstadt

Jeb called me about this and I knew I wanted the photo to be something by the late Swedish photographer Lars Tunbjork. There are so many worlds in his photography, so I figured using it would give me a license to bounce between a few genres and periods in the playlist. The vacation scenes from his work are vibrant and chaotic. I was between three photos when I started putting songs together.

Deodato is a very recent discovery for me. I think “Whistle Bump” just kind of sets the mood and acts a bit as a palette cleanser. Probably my favorite moment of the playlist is the transition from “Don’t Come Home A-Drinkin’” to “Waves”. It happened on shuffle in my car one time and I smile when I think about it. There’s a lot of short songs in here because I wanted to end with Grateful Dead’s “Turn on Your Love Light” which is just a full-on jam. That’s all. I like this a lot. Hope you do too.
