Since my job is to curate playlists, I thought I’d show off. However, I was advised to do everything but… so instead, I am introducing you to Bittersweet on Bostwick Lane, a documentary photography series by Susan Worsham.

Worsham’s Bittersweet reflects both my soul and my nightmares, dancing in perfect visual harmony; her work is through a nostalgic lens, capturing youth in the south, while meditating on both suicide and parental loss. The opening line to Worsham’s brother’s suicide note is the curatorial anchor for this playlist: “I arrived home just about the time the honeysuckle blooms.” This sentiment repeats in my head so frequently, that I’ve considered getting a honeysuckle tattoo. This project demonstrates the fear of being unable to escape the ticking clock and the corresponding guilt that comes with parting from those who have gave me wings.

I, myself, have reached out to Susan to discuss the series and puzzle together some sort of explanation for it’s hold over me. While I won’t share those details, this playlist represents the bittersweet feeling that comes with returning home to an ever changing landscape and the face of an aging loved one. Eeek… grab a tissue and enjoy :)
